چکیده

District Cooling Systems (DCS) have been widely applied in large institutions such as universities, government facilities, commercial districts, airports etc. The hydraulic system of a large DCS can be very complicated. They often stem from an original design that has had extensive additions and deletions over time. Expanding or retrofitting such a system involves large capital investment. Consideration of future expansion is often required. Therefore, a thorough study of the whole system at the planning phase is crucial. An effective hydraulic model for the existing DCS will become a powerful analysis tool for this purpose. Engineers can use the model to explore various alternatives of system configuration to find an optimal way of accommodating the DCS hydraulic system to the planned future. This paper presents the first complete procedure for the use of commercial simulation software to construct the hydraulic model for a large District Cooling System (DCS). A model for one of the largest DCS hydraulic systems in the United States has been developed based on this procedure and has been successfully utilized to assist the decision makings for its master planning purpose.

Operation Planning of District Heating and Cooling Plants Considering Contract Violation Penalties

Urban district heating and cooling (DHC) systems operate large freezers, heat exchangers, and boilers to stably and economically supply hot and cold water, steam etc., based on customers demand. We formulate an operation-planning problem as a nonlinear integer programming problem for an actual DHC plant. To reflect actual decision making appropriately, we incorporate contract-violation penaltie...

Development And Evaluation Of A Simplified Modeling Approach For Hydraulic Systems

This paper presents how a hydraulic system can be properly modeled for hydraulic balancing, knowledge of flow distribution, coupled simulation, and evaluation of control, etc. It focuses on water-based heating and cooling systems, which generally have high energy efficiency in design but could perform poorly in reality due to the undersensing condition and strong thermal-hydraulic coupling. The...

An Interactive Fuzzy Satisficing Method for Multiobjective Operation Planning of District Heating and Cooling Plants Considering Various Penalties for Violation of Contract

District heating and cooling (DHC) systems have been actively introduced as energy supply systems in urban areas. Since there exist a number of large-size freezers, heat exchangers and boilers in a DHC plant to generate and supply cold water, hot water and steam to a DHC system, the control under an operation plan for these instruments on the basis of the demand of cold water, hot water and ste...

An Improved Modular Modeling for Analysis of Closed-Cycle Absorption Cooling Systems

A detailed modular modeling of an absorbent cooling system is presented in this paper. The model including the key components is described in terms of design parameters, inputs, control variables, and outputs. The model is used to simulate the operating conditions for estimating the behavior of individual components and system performance, and to conduct a sensitivity analysis based on the give...

Sustainable heating and cooling for cities

Over the past decades, Stockholm and Sweden have reduced CO2 emissions and increased resource efficiency, while maintaining high and sustainable economic growth. A major part of the recipe for success has been the development of the infrastructure for district heating and cooling. The district heating and cooling networks cover the Greater Stockholm Area. A set of large production plants, where...
